Smoky Baked tofu
Smoky, savoury, baked tofu slices. These are delish in a wrap or sandwich - they make a great vegan “BLT”.
This super simple recipe takes 40 minutes to make but almost all of that is hands off.
The trick to getting your tofu really flavourful is to first press out any extra liquid. Then the tofu works like a sponge soaking up whatever flavours you add to it. If you don’t have blackstrap molasses or coconut sugar you can replace them with golden syrup.

Ingredients
1 block of firm tofu (300g) 1½ Tbsp tahini 2 Tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for GF) 1 tsp blackstrap molasses ½ tsp smoked paprika 1 ½ tsp coconut sugar (or brown sugar)Directions
- Start by pressing your tofu. Open up your tofu package and drain off the liquid. Then put it on top of some paper towels or a clean lint-free tea towel and then cover with another paper towel. Place something flat and heavy on top and leave to sit for at least 15 mins.
- Mix all remaining ingredients together.
- Slice your tofu into .5cm thick slices.
- Now you have two choices depending on how much time you have. The first option is to just coat each piece of tofu in the mixture. The second option is to add 1-2 Tbsp of water to you mixture, lay all your tofu slices flat in a shallow dish that’s just large enough to have all the tofu in one layer and pour your mixture over the top. If any pieces of tofu are not covered in the mixture then turn them over. Leave this to marinade for at least 20 minutes or up to 24 hours if you keep it in the fridge.
- Now place your tofu slices on a baking paper lined tray and bake at 180°C for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
